Lake Clifton Bridge Project - Traffic Update
The City of Rocky River would like to inform residents and motorists of an upcoming traffic change associated with the Lake Clifton Bridge Project.
Beginning April 20, 2026, and continuing for the duration of roadway adjustments during Phase 1 construction, the contractor will implement a change to traffic patterns from Detroit Rd to Lake/Clifton.
Initial plans called for keeping Ramp B (the ramp from Detroit Road to eastbound Lake Road) open during construction. However, after further review—including multiple site visits and consultation with an ODOT-certified Work Zone Traffic Supervisor—safety concerns have been identified with this approach.
Specifically, maintaining Ramp B would require shifting traffic from the existing eastbound lanes on the south side of Lake Road to a new alignment on the north side. This transition area has limited merge distance and restricted visibility, creating a potential safety risk for drivers. Additionally, it would involve removing/modifying a section of the concrete median which could cause long term concerns to the structure.
To prioritize public safety, Ramp B will be temporarily closed during Phase 1 construction. Traffic will be detoured using the established route via Detroit Road. The detour route will be shared when available.
Advance notice will be provided through additional message boards along Detroit Road and surrounding areas to help guide motorists and minimize disruption.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to complete this important infrastructure project safely and efficiently.
