Building Permits

With construction season in full swing, the building department would like to remind property owners to ensure that any contractor performing work on their property is properly registered and has obtained all required permits before work begins.

While many contractors will handle the permitting process on behalf of their customers, property owners should verify that all necessary permits and approvals have been secured. As a reminder, The permit shall be posted in a conspicuous location on the site. The owner and the contractor shall preserve and keep the certificate posted until the final inspections have been completed. Hiring a contractor does not relieve the property owner of the responsibility to ensure that the required permits have been obtained. Taking a few moments to confirm registration and permit requirements before work starts can help avoid delays, unexpected costs and potential enforcement issues later in the project, including orders to remove non-permitted work.

If you have any questions about whether your project requires a permit, please contact the building department before your project begins at (440)356-2139.
